What to Expect

Low Level Walking A good level of fitness is needed. We will walk between 5 and 7.5 miles in a day, in spectacular countryside, along lake shores and through woodland with some very moderate up and down hill walking. We carry all we need and have a picnic lunch along the way, most days the walk will finish near a tea shop at about 4:30pm. With a ‘welcome get-together’ after arrival you have time to relax and use the leisure facilities, often having a free day on the Sunday. A local excursion is generally available during the week and it is included in the 7 night break. Guide Dogs are welcome.

Intermediate Walking - Each walk will cover around 7 to 9 miles with some steep uphill walks as well as more moderate circular routes visiting different areas of the Lake District or outlying regions. The routes include intermediate hills (350m to 450m or 900ft to 1,400ft), such as Loughrigg, Holme Fell, Gowbarrow or sections of the Cumbria Way, with steeper uphill tracks and paths through woodland. Some hill walking experience is expected to help make the most of the week. We cannot take Guide Dogs along on these walks, sorry.

High Level Walking - Walking up to some of the Lake Districts high mountain tops will require full days of strenuous walking. Hill walking experience is expected, particularly keeping a steady pace with a good level of general fitness and stamina in order to climb and descend heights of up to 3,000 ft. (930m) with distances of 8 to 11 miles. We will be out for 6 or 7 hours and walk Monday to Friday with a rest day on Wednesday when the option of joining a hotel excursion will be available to you. We cannot take Guide Dogs along on these walks.
